OF MANKIND, WOMANKIND, AND OTHER KIND - 2 & 3-dimensional artworks by Patricia Krebs
May 9, 2009 - June 11, 2009
NELAart.org's Second Saturday Gallery night: Saturday, May 9, 2009 - 7-10pm
Artist reception: Sunday, May 17, 2009 - 3-6pm
Cactus Gallery is proud to present "Of Mankind, Womankind, and Other Kind," a solo exhibition by mulitimedia artist Patricia Krebs.
For “Of Mankind, Womankind, and Other Kind,” Krebs created a series of whimsical 2 & 3-dimensional pieces that reflect on the nature of men, women, humanity and other creatures. She will also show pieces from her last two series: "Guardianas" –strong female protectors of the earthly realm who can also inspire our dreams in a playful way and “Animas in the Matrix” –wall sculptures made of disassembled electronic and natural elements that explore contrasts.
Krebs grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she graduated with the degrees in Fine Arts and Contemporary Visual Arts. Over the last thirteen years, Krebs has worked independently as a singer, songwriter, producer, illustrator, portraitist, designer and puppet maker. She moved to Los Angeles eight years ago.
In her work, whatever the medium, Krebs talks about life: the complexity of humanity, the connections within ourselves, between each other, and to the Earth. “By means of their rare beauty and humor, my characters would want to stir our thoughts, provoke feelings, evoke memories or create fantasies” she says.

This March, as we celebrate our 4TH BIRTHDAY, we see green as the desire to grow and learn. In order to grow, as artists, as a gallery, or as humans, we know that change and transformation is necessary. This ability to sustain changes is a part of the energy of green. This is the green we seek to explore with this show.
Green is regarded as the color of eternal life. Green symbolizes nature, regeneration, and rebirth. Green is self-respect and well being. Green means learning, growth and harmony. It is the desire to expand or increase. Islam venerates the color, as it expects paradise to be full of lush greenery. As the emblematic color of Ireland, green represents the vast green hillsides, as well as Ireland's patron saint, St. Patrick. In Aztec culture, green was considered to be royal because it was the color of the quetzal plumes used by the Aztec chieftains.
