New paintings about Life and Death by Walt Hall

"Through the Forest of Our Endless Numbered Days," is a continuation of the Los Angeles based artist's study of austere and melancholic forest-scapes created on discarded wood, foreign newsprints, old fashioned wallpaper and iconic advertising elements.
Hall's work shows the viewer small scenes of life and death, happiness and sadness, love and loss. This body of new work is connected, like all of the artist's work, not by a story as such, but rather by a narrative thread based on an equation of emotion leading to reconciliation and balance.
"Through the Forest of Our Endless Numbered Days," features several new large paintings, a group of the artist's signature work on discarded wood panels, work on glass bottles, and a salon wall of small work.
Walt Hall was born and raised in North East Los Angeles. Although an active artist from a very young age, he cut his creative teeth in the world of commercial art restoration rather than the traditional art school. Until 2000 his main focus was music and a series of local punk bands that he formed with friends. Since that time he has returned his creative focus to the visual arts.
Although painting is his first and foremost creative method he also employs a wide variety of surfaces, forms, objects, mixed media, and enjoys collecting discarded materials for assemblage work. He paints in oil as well as acrylics and produces work that ranges in size from several square inches to mural sized works on unstretched canvas.
