COMFORT FOOD – new mixed media works by Douglas Alvarez

Cactus Gallery is proud to present Comfort Food, a solo exhibition by multimedia artist Douglas Alvarez. Comfort Food is an exploration into the psyche of human relationships and our infatuation with food.

For this, his second solo show at Cactus Gallery, Alvarez has extended his techniques of viscous and glazed paint to three-dimensional sculptural reliefs. Douglas Alvarez has combined all these media into an interactive installation, a domestic environment where one can savor delicious junk foods while playing video games in a comfy chair.

Douglas Alvarez was born in Los Angeles; a product of a typical suburban upbringing, a childhood filled with skateboarding, arcade games and junk food. Alvarez was accepted to a mediocre law school but pursued his passion for art instead, receiving dual degrees from California State University, Northridge in Art and Political Science.
