The works created for this show are mainly inspired by Patricia's dreams: images that haunt and at the same time liberate her mind and at times offer some kind of a revelation. And then again, since those dreams come from her -- or she from them -- you can still expect some of her favorite subjects, such as beauty and monstrousness, primitiveness and progress, the earthly and the ethereal, sanity and craziness, represented through characters who are born from combining technique with playful experimentation.

Oneiric Alchemy emerges from recycling both residual subconscious images and discarded materials, recreating them and giving them a new meaning.

PRESS RELEASE:

Full-time artist Patricia Krebs grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she graduated with degrees in Fine Arts, Arts Education and Contemporary Visual Arts. Over the last fourteen years, Krebs has worked independently as a singer, songwriter, illustrator, portraitist, designer and puppet maker.

Krebs moved to California in 2001 and has shown her work in several galleries in the US in solo and group shows, steadily gaining recognition in the art scene. She has been chosen by galleries, organizations and curators for events such as "Women Artists on Immigration" juried by MOCA curator Alma Ruiz (2008) and publications like the Latino Heritage Month Cultural Guide 2007, 2008 & 2009 published by the Mayor of Los Angeles. In January of this year, she was presented with a Certificate of Special Recognition "in appreciation of outstanding and invaluable artistic contribution to the City of Los Angeles by The Department of Cultural Affairs of this city.

In her work, whatever the medium, Krebs talks about life: the complexity of humanity, the connections within ourselves, between each other, to the Earth.

For “Oneiric Alchemy” – her third solo show at Cactus - Krebs created a series of 2 & 3-dimensional pieces suggesting that dreams, fantasies and metaphors are deep ways of understanding and allow us to see beyond what has been placed before our eyes. Her surreal imagery reveals another reality and proposes a chaos that makes sense: obsolete objects become alive and are transformed into complex characters and intricate stories; discarded materials are transmuted into a kind of beauty that inspires us to exercise our imagination.

"Through the Forest of Our Endless Numbered Days"

The works created for this show will no doubt feature some of Walt Hall's usual set of characters in their forest settings. Don't miss out on owning a piece by one of L.A.'s most active, emerging underground artists.
